Robotics Support Engineer

Tompkins is hiring a Robotic Systems Support Engineer to serve as an on-site or remote support engineer for Tompkins Robotics equipment.  The successful candidate will have a software, controls, and electronics (preferably robotics) background. This role will be a part of the Robotics Technical Support Team.

The Support Engineer is responsible for registering, tracking, documenting and handling disruptions, errors, and inquiries regarding t-Sort. Technical and verbal language skills are necessary. This includes complex troubleshooting and problem-solving.

 

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide support for the t-Sort system, including the Lab Z robot control server and its API with Tompkins Warehouse Execution System.
  • Respond to queries via chat, email, or phone
  • Train other staff members on troubleshooting and diagnosing problems
  • Write, edit, and revise training manuals for new and updated software and hardware
  • Provide technical assistance for questions and problems
  • Resolve software issues with the robot control system and related programs
  • Resolve electrical, mechanical or firmware problems with tSort robots
  • Resolve problems with wireless devices, networks and other IT equipment used to support tSort
  • Diagnose system errors and other issues
  • Follow up with customers to ensure full resolution of issues
  • Track issues using customer service management software
  • Run reports to analyze common complaints and problems
  • Install or configure software to fix issues
  • Communicating and working closely with other groups within Tompkins and the project team (i.e., software, controls, mechanical, and installation personnel to resolve client issues.
  • After-hours support for t-Sort issues
  • Be a resource to the help desk support team for robot-specific issues.
  • Be a liaison to the robot control system developers on functional requirements, testing issue resolution, lab testing, and help desk issues
  • Provide on-site support to Tompkins Robotics Implementation team as necessary
  • Ensure successful system turnover to client to include training and go-live support

Job Requirements:

  • Technical written and verbal language skills are necessary
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or electrical engineering
  • Ability to read and understand circuit diagrams, 3D models and 2D AutoCAD drawings
  • Strong mechanical and electrical systems knowledge
  • Previous experience in the installation, configuration, testing, and support of material handling or other large control systems is a plus
  • Understanding of SQL and other database formats
  • Basic competency in networking using Windows and Linux operating systems and networking equipment such as Cisco switches and access points
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Orlando, FL
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites
